Besides 360 new subway cars, 390 new buses, and 204 low-floor, accessible light rail vehicles, smartcards are also on the way in Toronto. Here is one of the new smartcard readers being installed by the TTC at twelve subway stations this year. This smartcard reader is at St. Patrick Station. Full electronic fare payment will include acceptance at turnstiles of credit and bank cards, a system called "open payments".
