Giambrone leaving politics

Well I'm sure they're more than thrilled over at the Toronto Star. Or perhaps a little down, as they'll have to find someone else to regularly crucify with all of their puritanical hysteria. Anyways, it all but appears that Adam Giambrone, TTC Chair and Councillor for Ward 18 will not seek re-election this fall. His executive assistant, Kevin Beaulieu, admitted as much to the always-on-the-moral-high-ground Toronto Star. Beaulieu said that he will be running for Giambrone's seat at City Hall in the upcoming municipal election:

Thank you, I’m not ready to confirm this at this point but obviously it’s a logical sequence of events.

Giambrone has dropped clues that he might not seek re-election, as Steve Paikin asked Giambrone during his most recent appearance on TVO's The Agenda if he would be seeking re-election, but he was non-committal.

Beaulieu managed both of Giambrone's previous election campaigns in 2003 and 2006, and apparently has a reputation for being "low-key", "hard-working" and "likeable".

Giambrone's statement:

After much consideration, I have decided not to run again for City Councillor in Ward 18. I will of course be staying on to complete the term as Councillor for Ward 18 and TTC Chair. Thank you to everyone (especially the residents of Ward 18) for your support and I'm looking forward to continuing being involved in my City and continuing the work of building a great city. Now let's get on with saving Transit City!
