South Sudan readies for referendum



With about one hundred days until southern Sudan decides in a referendum for independence from the north, expectations are running high. Salva Kiir, the president of southern Sudan is hoping that people will vote to secede from the north. But opponents of secession say they are too afraid to express their views. Ensuring a free and fair referendum will not be easy, but a delay could result in instability, something the international community would like to avoid.
