Gingrich proposed death penalty for pot in 1997
Republican Presidential candidate Gary Johnson on fellow candidate Newt Gingrich:
"Newt Gingrich in 1997 proposed the death penalty for possession of marijuana above a certain quantity of marijuana, and yet he is among the 100 million Americans who have smoked marijuana. I have advocated since 1999, legalizing marijuana, now 50% of americans support that notion.
I would love to have a discussion with him on the fact that he smoked pot, and under the right set of circumstances he proposed the death penalty for something he committed?"
