Pakistan attack claims first-recorded US lives

Three American soldiers were killed by a bomb as they attended the re-opening ceremony for a girl's school destroyed in a previous attack. The soldiers were killed on Wednesday in the Lower Dir district in Pakistan's restive North West Frontier Province. The soldiers are considered to be the first American fatalities in Pakistan's lawless tribal regions. They were members of a Special Forces Operation team that is training Pakistani soldiers in counter-insurgency techniques. At least three children were also killed in the bombing, claimed by the Taliban.
