Florida farm works to curb hunger

The Echo Farm in Fort Myers, Florida, believes its new techniques and ideas may be the key to fighting hunger the world over.

Using the southwestern Florida climate, with its very distinctive wet and dry seasons, Stan Doerr, the farm's chief executive officer, says they have been able to create new ideas that can be easily applied to similar climates in Southeast Asia, Haiti and Africa.

One such method, rice intensfication, which involves planting just one rice seedling at a time, instead of the traditional cluster, has been a huge success that has been replicated in several locations around the world.
