Sikhs face discriminatory conditions post-911

Democracy Now!:

Following the attacks on September 11, 2001, Sikh Americans have faced many of the same discriminatory conditions as Muslims and Arab Americans. Because of their distinct appearance, they are visible targets of violence and harassment. Observant Sikhs do not cut their hair; male followers often wear turbans and do not shave their beards. In April, the number of threats against Sikh Americans led Democratic Rep. Joseph Crowley of New York to send a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder urging the FBI to collect data on hate crimes committed against the community. We’re joined by Jaisal Noor, a correspondent for Democracy Now! and for Free Speech Radio News, and we rebroadcast his 2011 report on post-9/11 hate crimes targeting Sikhs.
