Horwath’s 10-person caucus has punched above its weight as an opposition watchdog. The NDP was up to the 20 per cent threshold in the most recent published poll. The party seems poised to make gains in Northern Ontario and along the beleaguered manufacturing belt of southwestern Ontario and Niagara.
More than that, Horwath makes a positive impression on almost everyone she meets.
She was recently among the favourite interview sessions of a university group that met all the leaders. She’s apparently testing well in focus groups, especially among women.
But as most who meet her seem to conclude, Andrea Horwath is as genuine and down-to-earth as political leaders come.
