From the Toronto Sun:
Three NDP MPPs — angry that women may not get access to abortion information under the Stephen Harper government's plans for women's health funding — stood up in silent protest in the Ontario Legislature Thursday.
NDP Leader Andrea Horwath and colleagues Cheri DiNovo and France Gelinas stood with a paper sign marked with a large 'X' over their mouths.
Speaker Steve Peters immediately ruled them out of order as props are not allowed in the Legislature.
Horwath said she respects the Speaker and the rules but wanted to express her views on these issues.
"There comes the rare time, and I think this is it, where as a women and as a woman leader of a political party it was appropriate to show my support for other women around this country who are very concerned about what's happening on the national scene in terms of women's voices being silenced," she said. "There is a real pall happening around Canada."
The back of the paper listed "women's groups that refuse to be silenced" including the Alberta Network of Immigrant Women and Planned Parenthood International.
