Fox News calls Neo-Nazis “civil rights group”
News One:
While reporting the presence of Neo-Nazis in Sanford, Florida to “protect” White citizens, a FOX affiliate in Orlando refers to the group as a “civil rights group.”
The Fox Orlando affiliate, WOFL, aired a shockingly uncritical report of the groups activities. The Fox reporter, Jennifer Bisram, introduced the group by saying, “There’s another civil rights group in town.” She also conducts an interview with the group’s leader, Jeff Schoep, without challenging any of his claims about the nature and mission of the group. [Bisram] includes none of the groups Nazi ties or incendiary history in her report. She concludes: “They say they are just a civil rights group trying to protect people in case things get out of hand. They say they intend to follow all the Florida laws while patrolling.”
As previously reported by Newsone, tensions continue to mount in Sanford, Florida, the town where neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman, 28, gunned down 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on February 26 in a vigilante-style execution that has polarized the nation.
Schoep, representative for the Detroit-based National Socialist movement who until 2008 protested in full Nazi uniform, told the Miami New Times that approximately 10 to 20 volunteers are ready, able and willing to protect the “White citizens in the area” if race riots ensue:
Whenever there is one of these racially charged events, Al Sharpton goes wherever Blacks need him,” he said belligerently, “We do similar things. We are a White civil rights organization…We are not the type of White people who are going to be walked all over.”
Schoep further contends that “the Constitution was written by white men alone, therefore, it was intended for whites alone” and that the organization’s action is in response to the $10,000 bounty being offered by the New Black Panther Party for the citizen’s arrest of Zimmerman.
