GOP showing its true colours

This past Saturday morning, Tom Price of Georgia led a group of equally rude and obnoxious Republicans in constantly interrupting members of the Democratic Women's Caucus from making statements to the House of Representatives. Members of the Women's Caucus were attempting to demonstrate how the health care reform legislation would assist women in general (although I seriously doubt they were referring to this), but Republican Representatives showed their true colours and contempt for female Democrats by acting like children and yelling over them.

Price and other Republicans kept shouting "I object", even though it was not their turn to speak. Democratic Representative John Dingell of Michigan, who was the presiding chair of the House, did a horrendous job of maintaining order throughout the session and essentially allowed the Republican infants to run amok.

Democratic Representative Mary Jo Kilroy of Ohio began to receive the same sexist treatment, but she angrily fired back, asking:

Do I not have the right to be able to continue my sentence without objections that are trying to censor my remarks here on the floor that I have a right to make as a member of this House?

Think Progress interviewed Representative Kilroy yesterday and said that not only were Price and the other Republicans being sexist, but also emphasized recent Republican Congressional Committee comments regarding Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi and that it was time to "put her in her place":

Three male members of Congress got up and started shouting down — trying to shout down the Democratic women. I thought it was loud, I thought it was rude, I thought it was disrespectful, and I thought it was sexist.

Well, when you engage in loud, rude, and boorish behavior, my mother would have said they should apologize. I don’t expect an apology, but that would be nice to have that. But you know, you’re seeing this sexist behavior going on.

You heard recently comments — from the Republican side of the aisle, some of my Republican colleagues over there — saying Speaker Pelosi should be put in her place, and I think that’s what they thought they were doing with the Democratic women. And it’s simply outrageous to me to have women being treated like that on the floor of the House.

The behaviour demonstrated here is truly despicable and incredibly sexist.
