Thousands of Palestinians have held celebrations in the West Bank and
elsewhere, hours before a vote at the UN General Assembly that is widely
expected to give Palestine upgraded membership status at the world
body. The demonstrations have largely been held by supporters of
Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority, but, in a
departure from previous policy, Hamas leaders have also said they
support the move. Al Jazeera's Nicole Johnston reports from Ramallah, in the West Bank.
