Zellers workers rally to ask Target for fairness
More than a hundred Windsor Zellers workers and community supporters rallied in front of the Devonshire Mall Zellers store on May 5. The Windsor, Ontario store will be closing, to reopen as one Target's first 24 locations in Canada. The Zellers workers at the store (like all Zellers workers at stores to be converted) have been told they are being let go. They can apply to work at Target, but there is no guarantee they will be rehired. Even if they are, they must start at the bottom of the wage tier, and will lose the seniority and health benefits they currently have. Many of the workers have been employed by Zellers in Windsor for decades. See http://www.targetfairness.ca.
