Arab foreign ministers have agreed to ask the United Nations for a joint peacekeeping force and a special Arab ambassador to help halt the violence in Syria. Their meeting on Sunday came as Bashar al-Assad's government intensified its crackdown on Homs, the stronghold of the so-called Free Syrian Army of defectors and armed civilians.
