At least forty-three people were killed and eighty injured in a suicide attack on a Shia Muslim rally in the southwestern Pakistani city of Quetta. The bomber was among the crowd and detonated once he reached the main square in the city today, resulting in chaotic scenes, with people setting fires as others fled or lay on the ground to avoid ongoing gunfire. The bomb appeared to target the rally being held for Al-Quds day, an international event held every year by the Shia community, opposing Israel's control of Jerusalem and showing solidarity with Palestinian Muslims. It is the second time this week the Shia minority has been targeted in a deadly attack.
