The Palestinian leadership is discussing what it plans to do next after its application for full UN membership ran into trouble. A committee of the United Nations Security Council was divided on whether to back the bid, which now looks very unlikely to succeed. President Mahmoud Abbas, who was treated to a hero's welcome from the United Nations in September, will now try and ensure that this apparent defeat in the UN does not damage the popularity of his Fatah party. Palestine may also continue to push for full statehood recognition in UN agencies, just as it did in UNESCO this month. Al Jazeera's Nicole Johnston reports from the West Bank.
