Joe Pantalone Will Honour Stewards of Community Spirit with a New Order of Community Excellence
Joe Pantalone remains ever thankful that Toronto’s commitment to diversity and community allowed the son of immigrant sharecroppers to become Deputy Mayor and leading Mayoral candidate.
So, when he is elected Mayor, he will pay homage to that community spirit, by creating a civic honour which recognizes contributions to our thriving grassroots: the Toronto Order of Community Excellence.
Five individuals living in Toronto will be invested into the Order each year. These individuals, nominated by the public, will be chosen by a committee of Councillors, community members, and the Mayor.
Members of the Order of Community Excellence will be recognized for outstanding leadership in any field that contributes to a vibrant Toronto, including: diversity and social inclusion, community development, youth engagement, education, arts, and the environment.
Preference will be given to those who are not normally recognized for their contributions. Any permanent resident of the City of Toronto will be eligible.
“Our community leaders’ passion comes from a desire to make their city great,” says Mr. Pantalone. “It is time that the city recognized their greatness as well.”
